We are thrilled to present an exclusive listen of “Burn,” the latest single from metal band Alter Apex.
Like striking a match, “Burn” begins with super high energy and tension. You’re kind of thrust onto a high-speed-motorcycle-simulation, with the guitar just absolutely chugging at full force, and then the vocals start in really low and loaded —it’s a galvanic contrast, and a perfect hook to a song. The fast lane suits this band, and I hope there’s plenty more where this came from.
The single drops on streaming platforms on January 10th, and the band will unleash it live on January 11th at Bound’s album release show, with support from Crushed!?, Talking Hours, and Death Destroyer.
Alter Apex had the following to say about the production of “Burn.”
Ken: “This song was incredibly cathartic to write. It came from a deeply personal place, many years into a journey of spiritual deconstruction and reconstruction. It felt amazing to pour all of that out and let the song carry those emotions.
Musically, I think it mirrors that same energy—we just put it all out there. It’s a lot of what Alter Apex has been about up to this point, but pushed to a frantic pace. It’s like we took everything we do, turned up the intensity, and packed even more of it into one track.
One thing I’m especially proud of is the vocal production. The takes you hear on the final song are actually the very first time I ever sang it. They were meant to be rough demo tracks for us to learn the tune, but when it came time to re-record, we all felt the raw emotion and performance were already there. It’s such a cool detail most people would never know, and it makes the song feel even more authentic to me.”
Kdubb: “This song took us in a fresh and exciting direction—it’s our fastest track yet, and it’s an absolute blast to play! It takes me back to my younger days of drumming for punk and pop-punk bands, especially with those quick bass drum doubles that bring so much energy. I can’t wait for people to hear it!”
Dex: “Right from the start, I knew this was going to be a song we’d all be stoked about. I’d been wanting to write something with a faster tempo, and this one really nailed it. To keep it fresh and dynamic, I worked on adding ear candy and melodic parts to balance the intensity of that main riff. The guitar solo was especially fun to craft—it had to be melodic, energetic, and match the song’s intensity. But honestly, my favorite part of the whole process is when we finish tracking and the song comes to life. It’s an amazing feeling!”
Eric: “I’ve been so excited about how this track came together. As my basslines started to take shape, they added another layer to the chaos of all the cool things happening with the guitars, drums, and vocals. It’s such a powerful combination, and I think fans are going to love it!”
